The Portuguese Way enters Galicia at Tui, a medieval town overlooking the river Miño opposite the Portuguese fortress of Valença, with a Gothic cathedral that looks more like a castle than a church.
Over seven days you will cross the inland Rías Baixas: the Louriña valley, the bridge at Pontesampaio where Napoleon's troops were defeated, the old town of Pontevedra with its church of A Peregrina, and the spa town of Caldas de Reis.
The route is also a feast: the bread of O Porriño, the famous Padrón peppers and stops steeped in the literary heritage of Camilo José Cela and Rosalía de Castro.
The final stage passes the sanctuary of A Escravitude before entering Santiago's World Heritage old town.
